My mother is a farmer's daughter, who couldn't wait to get off the farm. Now she lives in a small house in town, with a big backyard. She has filled the backyard with trees (something like four Spruce, three maples, four apple trees, and a couple beyond description). She has a wild flower garden, an herb garden, and a grape arbor that produces leaves but little fruit. (We try, we really try, but we just haven't got the knack of the pruning.)

She also has butterfly bushes, thistle, and milkweed. What would her Grandpa have thought, transplanting weeds to the city??? And this last Sunday, she had a bumper crop of butterflies. Six of them took turns feeding at the butterfly bush.

What a great way to spend part of a Sunday afternoon, lying in a hammock and counting butterflies. Great therapy!

The end of summer?
